California's small business exchange, known as the SHOP, has picked Pinnacle Claims Management, Inc. to be the plan's administrator. Pinnacle has 15 years experience as a plan administrator with a current client base of about 800 clients. They have secured a $50 million contract for a 3 year term from the state of California. The good news is that California is one of only a few states that has their small business exchange poised to open this fall for January 1, 2014 start date. The bad news is that a company that currently has 800 clients within a matter of about 6 to 9 months needs to add an expected 375,000 new clients. Can they do it successfully? We will hope they can. This is an important feature of the health care law (PPACA) and it's success will ease some of the stress on small businesses.
